Palestinian & Israeli Peace and Solidarity Group

Welcome to the Hebrew Tabernacle Palestinian & Israeli Peace and Solidarity Group page.
Our next meeting will be onMonday, March 10th at 6:00 PM.
Since February of 2024, we have had a monthly reading and discussion group at Hebrew Tabernacle for peace advocates. In solidarity with Palestinians and Israelis, we aim to better understand one another and mend the widening rifts in the Jewish community. People are hungry to face the conflict, discuss it, and learn more about it. Our group strives to create a safe space to do that. Reading poems and other texts by Palestinians, Israelis, and Americans has fostered meaningful discussions of current events, history, diasporism, and Zionism. We also share news sites, parenting resources, and opportunities for actions and activism. Given the support by most Jewish institutions for Israel, it can feel alienating to criticize Israel in these settings. It can even feel like one’s Jewish identity or allegiance is questioned. Thus, we are thrilled that the Hebrew Tabernacle community welcomes–and continues to make space for–a diversity of Jewish points of view.
Past readings have included Rabbi Sharon Brous, voices from the Israeli Jewish Left, Mahmoud Darwish, Mosab Abu Toha, Naomi Shihab Nye, Yehuda Amachai, Almog Behar, June Jordan, Aurora Levins Morales, Irene Klepfisz, Edward Said, Naomi Klein, Peter Beinart. We recently met to discuss the “sci-fi” documentary film Lyd (2024). Member interest drives the readings/discussion topics.
Please join us the conversation on Monday, March 10, at 6 PM. Pizza and childcare provided. This group is open to members of the congregation of all ages. For links to readings and more information email htpeaceandsolidarity@
