On November 3rd at 7:30 P.M, the Hebrew Tabernacle will be holding its annual Kristallnacht service. As always, it will be an organ and choir service featuring our rich German, musical tradition.
Our guest speaker will be Fred Behrend, who recently published the book, Rebuilt from Broken Glass: A German Jewish Life Remade in America. He was a youngster in Germany when Kristallnacht took place and his father was arrested and briefly sent to the concentration camp, Sachsenshausen. He is quite familiar with Washington Heights and indeed, has longtime friends at Hebrew Tabernacle. I am excited and honored that he will be addressing our congregation. Dr. Ruth Westheimer will be introducing our guest speaker. Charles and Lilli Friedman will be sponsoring the Oneg.
If you are interested in purchasing a signed copy of Rebuilt from Broken Glass, please send a check for $25 to the synagogue payable to Purdue University Press. Please indicate to me in an email as to how you would like to have your name inscribed in the book. All checks must be received by October 26th. At the November 3rd service, the Behrend family will bring the purchased books to the synagogue. I can be contacted at rebjeff2028@gmail.com. Please see the attached flyer for additional information.
